From Distress Migration
to Sustainable Livelihoods

Across Rural and Urban India

Hi, I'm an Educator, Migration Scholar, and
Community Practitioner, committed to
advancing inclusive rural–tribal
development.

About

I am a migration scholar, educator, and development practitioner with deep engagement in issues of internal migration, informal labour, inclusive education, and rural–tribal development in India. My work lies at the intersection of research, teaching, and grassroots practice, driven by a strong commitment to amplifying the voices and lived experiences of marginalised communities. Over the past fifteen years, I have worked across academia, grassroots initiatives, and policy-oriented research, consistently striving to bridge the gap between knowledge and practice.

I hold a PhD in Sociology and have qualified the UGC–NET in both Sociology and Education. My professional teaching journey spans over fifteen years, during which I have served for eight years as a Teacher Educator and taught Sociology for more than a decade at various levels. This includes extensive experience in mentoring civil services aspirants, where I integrate conceptual clarity with applied sociological insights. I have also served as a Post-Doctoral Fellow for one year on a European Union–funded research project, contributing to international academic and policy debates on migration, inequality, labour, and social justice.

As a social entrepreneur, I currently lead the RUBAL Foundation, a Maharashtra-based non-profit organisation working with potential migrants in rural and tribal regions, as well as with migrant workers in the urban informal sector. At RUBAL, we focus on livelihoods, education, skills development, social security, entrepreneurship, and the dignity of labour. Our mission is clear: to reduce distress migration by strengthening opportunities in Rural Bharat. This vision is embodied in the very name ‘RUBAL’, reflecting our commitment to enabling sustainable livelihoods, local resilience, and inclusive development in rural and tribal India.

As a mentor and educator, I guide UPSC aspirants in Sociology and related subjects, blending theoretical frameworks with practical insights drawn from my research and long-standing field engagement. I firmly believe that knowledge must not remain confined to classrooms or academic journals; it must circulate, empower communities, and contribute meaningfully to social transformation.

My writings have been published in leading national and regional newspapers, including The Indian Express, The Times of India, The Hindu, Hindustan Times, Sakal, and Maharashtra Times. Currently, I write a fortnightly column in Lokmat titled ‘Kamgar Nama’, a dedicated space focusing on labour, migration, and the everyday realities of workers.

I regularly engage as a speaker and resource person at academic forums, policy dialogues, training programmes, and community gatherings, advocating for more inclusive, equitable, and humane development pathways. I welcome dialogue and collaboration with scholars, practitioners, policymakers, students, and institutions working on migration, labour, rural–tribal development, and urban inclusivity. If you share these interests or wish to connect, I would be glad to hear from you.
